Currently China has removed the need for tourist visas.

WeChat

WeChat is used all throughout China. It is used to pay for street vendors, restaurants, any goods and services. Money can be loaded onto your account in the app. It is also the only way to book DiDi which is the equivalent of Uber and foreigners will have to pre-pay for their rideshare. Cash is still accepted everywhere though, so it is not entirely necessary to download the app.

Sim cards

We suggest getting an eSIM with a VPN built in such as Holafly so that you can still access all your apps. Even google maps will be blocked by default in China.
