Where to stay?
The wedding itself will be located at the Shanghai Historical Museum next to the People’s Park in the Huangpu district. It is in central Shanghai and has a train station at the park. The recovery day will be in the Bund area which is also in central Shanghai. To make things easier we recommend staying in the Huangpu, Jing’An or XinTianDi districts. Here are a few options in the central Shanghai area.
What to do and how to get around?
Shanghai is a beautiful city and since you are already over here; we highly suggest that you take some time to explore the city. Because it is a larger city the majority of people will speak english. We highly recommend the Shanghai metro for getting around. It can take you to most of the tourist sites and can be navigated with ease.
Here is our suggested 5 day visit itinerary.
Day 1 - Visit Pudong, (Liu Jia Zui) you can get there via Metro line 2. You will see the famous Trio tallest buildings. Pay a visit to the Oriental Pearl Tower, have lunch/dinner at there rotating restaurant for a 360 degree view of Shanghai.
Day 2 - Visit the famous WuKang Road. Here you will see heritage listed French buildings and known to be the most beautiful Road of Shanghai. Then head to Tian Zhi Fang, here you will experience the true traditional Shanghai. At night, head to Temple of City God and Yu Garden.
Day 3 - Explore people’s Square and Park. There you will find the most famous match making corner. Take a stroll down Nanjing Road. Its a bustling commercial Road with various kinds of delicious food and interesting shops. At the end of Nanjing Road is the world famous Bund. you canp on a cruise to witness the city view!!!
Visit Huanghe Road food street for all kinds of restaurants and street food. You can also try the famous Shanghainese crab roe noodles at Libaixie, the restaurant provides you with a great view of the bund and the Oriental Pearl Tower.
Day 4 - Visit the JingAn district. Here you will see the JingAn temple and have lunch or afternoon tea at the Paramount, where you can join in with the locals for some ball room dancing if you wish.
Day 5 - Head to XinTianDi for a spot of shopping. They have multiple malls where you can shop til you drop. They also have plenty of bars and eateries.
Walk down HuaiHai Road for some local famous foods: Try wontons and noodles at Canglang Pavilion and make sure to get your self a meat moon cake from Guang Ming Cun restaurant.
Other places you might consider to visit are:
- Wujiang Road. where all locals go to get authentic Chinese street food.
- Qibao old town. Slightly on the outer suburbs, catch the Metro and you will see the old town of Qibao.
- Shanghai Disney land
- North Bund Greenland
- L-snow (Worlds Largest skiing resort)
- ZhuJiaJiao Water Town (Known as the Venice of Shanghai)
FOOD
Shanghai is a multicultural city, therefore it is also a foodies playground. From Michelin star Restaurants to hole in the wall Restaurants, there will be something for everyone.
We recommend trying:
- Tang (Asia’s first Michelin Star restaurant)
- Mr and Mrs Bund (Beautiful view of the Bund at night)
- Shanghai Tang (Traditional Shanghainese food)
- Xiao Yang Shen Jian - Yang’s Fried dumpling (They are famously known for their fried dumplings and fried juicy meat buns) They are a franchise so you will be able to find them almost everywhere.
- Jia Jia Tang Bao (Famous for their Xiao Long Bao)
- GongYan Oriental Art Palace (You will be able to dress up in traditional Tang dynasty costume and experience a feast fit for the Emperor). It’s a Must try.
- LanZhou Beef Hand Pulled Noodles (You will find them almost every where, they are usually Halal and family operated)
